About The Shoppe
The idea for Beary Best
Friends was born on January 24, 1994, while watching
Gary Lowenthal, the owner of The Boyds Collection Ltd.,
during his debut on QVC. That hour changed my life, as I
knew it! I loved the fun he had with the bears,
and especially the way the audience responded to them.
The magical effect of that hour, became the inspiration
for my teddy bear shoppe.
NO sooner was
the show off the air, 'til I phoned my husband, Danny,
and told him what I wanted to do. His response, without
hesitation, was..."Do It!"
When reality set in, it took some convincing on his part to
make Beary Best Friends become a more than a dream. On April 28,
1994, just four months later, Higgins, my beautiful
"feline office manager", and I opened for bear business.
My goal was
to create an atmosphere where our customers could feel
totally comfortable, while "letting their inner child" out
to play.
A special place where the bears and their friends are at
their loveable best. Each bear in the shoppe is on a
"foster program", and will only be offered for adoption to
a caring and gentle home. They have all been given a
loving start by me, their "foster Mom".
You see, I know I cannot possibly keep them all, and the
only way I can bear to part with any of them is knowing
they will each find the very best home. So, each of them
has had their clothes and bows ironed, their fur fluffed,
each little tummy filled with bit-o-honey, and their best
manners polished.
Thus, they are confident little bears who will steal your
heart and be taken to a home where they will be forever
loved.
In May of 2002, we moved
from the Tannersville shoppe, a twenty by thirty foot room, and bought
a house for the bears. Moving everyone was a task that took a month and
a little more, but it was so worth it. This
is my dream shoppe! There are six rooms and an enclosed front
porch, with certain rooms for specific bears. This house was built in 1927 and finally found it's purpose...it was made to be a teddy bear shoppe! The teddies are delighted to have room to play, after hours, and Higgins has more room to prowl.
I hope to meet you some day. In the meantime, the site is the next best thing.
Now, if
