Sandra Dickl lives within ten miles of my teddy bear shoppe. We met, initially, through my sister, who is an avid collector of Sandra's bears. Ironically, her husband, Karl, was a new teacher in my high school...back when we all were just kids.
Sandra has become a treasured friend and mentor. When the idea for a teddy bear shoppe was conceived, I called her. She was a tremendous help in teaching me about artist bears, how to recognize great workmanship and original designs, as opposed to a copyists work. My shoppe wouldn't be what it is without her guidance and knowledge, for which I will be forever grateful!
Sandra's bears are just wonderful! Their faces "talk" to you. There are several in my own collection, and several more being craved. She has been nominated for the Teddy Bear of the Year award, through the magazine Teddy Bear and Friends, which is the highlight of any teddy bear artists career.
Since she and Karl built their dream home in 1997, her time is divided between her home, her gardens, which she loves, and making teddies.
Her daughter, Melissa, who lives five hours away, has gifted her with two beautiful grandchildren, Ashley and Robbie. Their visits are special occasions and always too short.
Sandra, a breast cancer survivor, has a rich and rewarding life...one we hope she can enjoy for decades to come!
