The Teddy Bear
Shoppe Of The Poconos
Shoppe Tour
T his tour will be a quick walk around
the shoppe with group photos to give you an idea of where the bears
live.
We
do have an extensive collection! Some are manufactured, many handmade
artist bears, and individual pictures with information will be part of this website.
One of Higgins' favorite things is to greet our guests. Since he is out and about,
he will give you a guided tour.
NORTH AMERICAN BEAR COMPANY ~The VanderBears~
As you enter the shoppe,
the Muffy VanderBear Collection will greet you. Introduced in 1984 by
the North American Bear Company, the Muffy collection has delighted
many little girls....and even more "bigger" little girls.
Each season the company presented several new additions. The VanderBear
family included Cornelius, the Father; Alice, the Mother; Fuzzy and Fluffy,
the twins and Muffy. Each collection came with dressed bears,
though the entire family was not a part of every one. Separate
outfits for each new addition were also included, so a new bear wasn't
necessary each time. The "bigger girl" collectors usually bought the dressed bears,
as they were not to be played with....or so they said!
Hoppy VanderHare,a darling bunny and Muffy's beary best friend, was
introduced in 1990. These little friends have had many adventures with
wardrobes to remember each occasion. The family included LuLu, the dog;
Oatsie, the horse; Pattie, the cow; Purrlie, the cat, Quackers, the
duck; Lucy, the goose; Rose, the white bunny; Bud, the brown bunny and
Bruce the spruce moose.
In 2000 the a Clothesline Collection for Muffy and Hoppy was introduced
This line was created with younger girls in mind. While having the same
quality as the originals, these outfits were priced for play rather than
collecting. Muffy and Hoppy also came dressed and boxed at a great
price.
Sadly, the original collection was retired in 2001 and Clothesline in
2002. There is still a selection in the shoppe, yet some of the pieces
have sold out.
The company continues to make the Couture Collection of Muffy. This is
few boxed, limited editions introduced each year. All of us, who love her,
hope to see Muffy return!
NORTH AMERICAN BEAR COMPANY ~Plush~
Muffy is not the only line from North American. They also have a wonderful
line of plush bears and other animals, which are made with children in mind. Many are machine washable and dryable, making them ideal for little people. Soft and cuddly, just the kind of teddy children need to watch over them.
J.C. BEARS INCORPORATED
S
haring the porch space, is J.C. Bears, the maker of "Namesake" bears. These little bean bag bears, of many colors, have names embroidered on their chests. The most popular names for new babies are currently being used. There are two hundred and fifty names at present, with more being added each year. If a name is not available, a bear with the name on a t-shirt can be ordered. These bears have been very popular with children, parents and grandparents alike.
